Nassau County Police detectives responded to a Ward Street residence shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18 in Westbury, where there was a report of a domestic incident in progress.
According to police, the investigation into the incident determined that Astoria resident Emad Newaz, 25, had allegedly attempted to enter the residence by pulling on the door handles, kicking the door and shouting “let me in.”
Police said that a female resident at the residence began screaming, at which point Newaz puled a decorative wreath from the door and threw it to the ground before fleeing on foot.
Investigating officers were able to locate Newaz near the residence, and he was taken into custody without further incident. While being processed for his arrest, Newaz began making verbal threats to place a bomb in the precinct and blow it up.
Newaz was charged with attempted burglary, criminal mischief and making terroristic threats. He was scheduled to be arraigned later in the day on Wednesday.
